The RMCP has arrested a Montreal businessman in connection with the seizure of 343 kilograms of cocaine.

47-year-old Michel Safar was arrested at home Tuesday morning.

The investigation into Safar began November 9th 2009, when Canada Border Services agents searched a shipping container at the port of Halifax.

Inside the shipping container were cases of ceramic tiles which had been heavily modified.

Police say this operation was very sophisticated and very professional.

"It was an empty cavity within the tiles and, without splitting the tile in half you wouldn't have found the drugs," said Alain Surprenant of the Canada Border Services Agency.

Valued at $45,000 per kilo, the shipment has an estimated street value of somewhere around $15 million.

The Border Services Agency handed the investigation to the RCMP, months of inquiries led officers to Safar, who owns a renovation company.

Safar will appear in court Wednesday to face charges of possession and trafficking.
