The borough of Lachine is asking for further investigation after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a city truck.
The deadly collision happened on July 27, when Lynn Godin was walking on St. Joseph Blvd.
She stopped to chat with her neighbour Sigmund Stosik, and the pair were standing on his driveway when the truck came around the corner.
"The next thing I knew this white vehicle came up on the sidewalk and onto my driveway and just banged her out and she went flying," said Stosik.
He said the driver lost control of the truck while turning the corner.
Godin was badly hurt, and died a week later after undergoing several surgeries.
Joan Brooks is still shocked at losing a friend.
"There's people who just stand here and cry. Other ones leave flowers. Some say prayers," said Brooks. "Nobody can believe this."
By all accounts Godin was a selfless, kind person, and those who knew her say she deserves better.
"If Lynn were here now, you'd already be in love with her," said Jan Johansson.
"She'd be concerned about you, your family, your job."
Montreal police have wrapped up their investigation and call this an accident. They say they will not be doing any more work on the matter.
That has irked neighbours, and borough officials are not happy with the decision. They have opened their own investigation of the death since it involves a city employee.
"I think it was speed, and there was also lack of concentration on driving," said Stosik.
"You just don't bang up on the sidewalk and take somebody out like that."
