Hydro Quebec has once again asked for permission to increase its rates for the coming year.
It’s asking for a 1.9 per cent “rate adjustment” for residential customers and most business customers. The hike would take effect April 1.
The utility cites an increase in supply costs and costs from two harsh winters as justification for the hike.
Hydro says even with the increase, its residential rates would be the lowest in North America.
The Regie de l’energie is the body that approves the rate increases. It is expected to hold public hearings on Hydro’s and other requests in December.
This past April, the Hydro rate increased by 2.9 per cent.
