A woman believed to be the oldest person on Earth has died.
Cicilia Laurent died Monday at age 120.
She came to Quebec six years ago following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
The destruction of records that were poorly kept in the first place made verifying her claim that she was 120 years old difficult.
That did not stop the Queen of Canada, as well as former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and former Premier Jean Charest from sending her official letters of congratulation.
Her birth certificate issued by Haiti said she was born on January 31, 1896, and earlier this year she celebrated her birthday at her home in Laval.
She was surrounded by family, with three of her 12 children still alive -- the oldest in her 80s. Laurent lived with several generations of her family, down to her great-grandchildren.
