Quebec’s independent bureau of investigators is looking into the death of a man who was allegedly shot by the Surete du Quebec on Sunday.

According to preliminary information gathered by the BEI, a man went to the Portneuf police station in the Quebec City area early Sunday afternoon to file a complaint against an individual.

The person against whom the complaint was filed then reportedly showed up in the parking lot of the police station at 3 p.m. and began beating cars with a machete.

Police officers tried to control him with pepper spray, but to no avail.

The man then allegedly lunged at officers with his machete and police opened fire.

Nine investigators from the BEI are handling the case to determine if the information provided by witnesses is correct.
