MONTREAL—A 19-year-old suspect was arrested Sunday afternoon by Laval police following the first murder on their territory in 2013. A 28-year-old Montreal man was stabbed at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday outside a bar on Cure-Lavelle Blvd.

The incident took place in the Chomedey sector of Laval outside Café Bab El Hara where the victim was stabbed in the chest.

Const. Franco Di Genova of the Laval police confirmed that the incident may have started as a verbal altercation in the bar before moving to the parking lot. The victim lost a large amount of blood and died in hospital.

The hookah bar was not known to police.

The suspect had fled on foot. Detectives from the Laval police’s major crimes unit are questioning the suspect, who is expected in court Monday.
