Montreal police want bystanders who may have taken photos or videos a jewelry store robbery at the Fairview Mall in Pointe Claire to share their footage with them.
Four masked suspects entered the Birks jewelry store at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and smashed the display case, grabbed what they could, and fled.
Before the thieves took off they pepper sprayed the store's employees.
The burglars were spotted fleeing the mall in a car.
A woman took a video showing parts of the robbery on her cellphone and shared it exclusively with CTV News.
The video shows four people running down the mall corridor, presumably coming from the jewelry store.
As she gets close to the store, she begins to cough, overcome with remnants of the pepper spray the robbers used to subdue the store’s staff.
At the moment police say they have very few details to go on, and are hoping examinations of surveillance video will provide a description of the suspects.
"At this point we don't have any description of the suspects, however we urge citizens who have taken pictures or photos or videos with their personal cameras to call Info-Crime and help in this investigation," said Constable Abdullah Emran.
Anyone who was at the mall on Wednesday and took photos or video of the robbery, or of the suspects fleeing the scene, can reach Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.
One witness said the four men were wearing hooded sweatshirts, and one stood watch while three others smashed display cases.
Police were at the mall throughout the night and Thursday morning as they conducted their investigation, which included using search dogs in an attempt to track the criminals.
Neither police nor the store's owners are providing details about how much was taken or what is was worth.
The four people injured at the scene by pepper spray were treated by the fire department.
