Could PK Subban be traded?

If it's going to happen, it will have to be within the next seven days.

Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning has told TSN radio that he is in talks to acquire PK Subban from the Montreal Canadiens.

Benning said that he is one of many teams talking about Subban, that the price to acquire Subban is high, but that the former Norris trophy winner is worth it.

"It's a long way from completing a deal like that," said Benning.

The Habs defenceman has a no-trade clause as of July 1 and will last until his eight-year contract expires in 2022.

Vancouver has the number 5 draft pick, the first round of which begins on June 24.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has never ruled out that he might trade Subban, but has instead said that it is his responibility to listen to offers.

On Thursday he denied trying to trade Subban.

"I have never shopped around Subban... but if they call with offers I have to listen," said Bergevin.

He said that trading discussions -- for all players -- have picked up in recent weeks.

"There are teams that are planning ahead for the expansion [of the new team in Las Vegas]"

The Canadiens have the ninth pick in the draft.
