Union Montreal has scooped up another former member of the opposition.

Claire Saint-Arnaud is a long-time councillor in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. She was originally elected to city hall with Pierre Bourque's team in 1994.

Saint-Arnaud left Vision Montreal last November to sit as an Independent.

Mayor Gerald Tremblay is pleased with the new addition.

"I'm happy because our team is competent and experienced, and the fact that we have candidates that decide to become members of Union Montreal and are dedicated in the borough," said the mayor. "It shows that we're there to unite."

Since Louise Harel announced she would be running as the Vision Montreal candidate for mayor, several people have left the party.

Karim Boulos said he will run as an independent, while Vision Montreal vice-president Oksana Kaluzny left the party, as did former party leader Francois Purcell.
