MONTREAL - To those motoring south on Highway 15 in a truck of five tons or more: prepare to add five kilometers and untold amount of traffic jam time to your trip.

Earlier this week, large transport trucks were banned from using the portion of the Turcot interchange that connects Decarie south with the highway 15 south approach to the Champlain bridge.

Now that ban has been extended to all vehicles over five tons until at least the end of January.

Drivers are diverted to the 20 west where they can loop back around at Angrignon. The detour transforms what was 0.6 kilometers into a 5.6 kilometer drive.

The detour has also led to traffic jams on the ramp from the 20 east to the 15 south.

Meantime, there are other traffic restrictions in the interchange this weekend.

The access ramp from highway 20 east to the Ville Marie is closed this weekend and the access from the Ville Marie to highway 20 west is down to one lane.
