All three people onboard a small private plane are confirmed dead after the aircraft crashed near the community of Kangirsuk in northern Quebec.

The plane departed from Val d’Or and stopped in Radisson to refuel en route to Kangirsuk.

An emergency locator transmission signal was picked up by CFB Trenton Thursday night, which then dispatched a search team and alerted Kativik Regional Police Friday morning. The wreckage was found at 12 p.m. Friday. There were no survivors.

A Canadian Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said the Piper Aztec twin engine plane crashed less than three kilometers from the Kangirsuk airport.

There are no details so far on what might have caused the accident. The victim’s identities have not been released.
