Three people have been arrested and are expected to be charged with first degree murder in the mysterious case of the deaths of four women whose bodies were found in submerged car in Kingston Mills locks a few weeks ago.

Zainab Shafi, 19, and her two sisters, 17-year-old Sahar and 13-year-old Geeti, were found inside a black Nissan Sentra submerged in water, near a Rideau Canal lock northeast of Kingston. Another 50-year-old family member, Rona Amir Mohammed, was also found lifeless inside the car.

The girls' mother Tooba Yahya, father Mohammed Shafi and brother have been arrested. They are to appear in court in Kingston on Thursday.

There are unconfirmed reports that Rona Amir Mohammed was in fact, Mohammed's first wife and that the two never divorced. A woman claiming to be Rona's sister sent a photo to Kingston police of the wedding that took place in Afghanistan.

When she could not have children, Mohammed took a second wife. Rona allegedly stayed to help raise the children.

Rona and Zainab had reportedly been receiving death threats.

Kingston police will conduct a press conference Thursday afternoon.
