A Laval mother has been deemed fit to stand trial in the deaths of her two daughters.
Adele Sorella, 43, faces two counts of first degree murder. She had been sent to the Philippe Pinel institute for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation because it was not clear that she understood the charges against her.
Her daughters, 8-year-old Sabrina and 9-year-old Amanda were found dead in the family home in March. Sorella was found by police a few hours later after she had crashed her car into a pole not far from the home.
The girls' father, Giuseppe de Vito, disappeared in 2006 after evading arrest during a police crackdown on crime.
Neither of the parents attended the girls' funeral.
Sorella remains in custody until her next court hearing in August.
