Two men are dead, including one with mafia connections, after a double shooting in Saint-Leonard Tuesday afternoon.

One of the victims was Agostino Cuntrera, 66, a longtime associate of the Rizzuto crime family.

Several shots were fired at the intersection of Du Creusot and Magloire around 4 p.m.

The two men were in front of a business owned by Cuntrera.

One man died at the scene. The second man succumbed to chest and abdomen injuries in hospital.

The major crimes unit of the Montreal police is investigating.

Officials say a black Chevrolet Impala may have been involved in the event.

The Cuntrera family has had ties to the Rizzuto clan since the 1970s.

Experts say Cuntrera had a reputation for being an "old school" gangster. He was known for being low-key and shying away from the spotlight.

This is the third major mafia-related event in Montreal since Vito Rizzuto's extradition to the U.S. on murder charges.
