Could a streaky Montreal Impact team still have hopes for a playoff spot with 13 games remaining this season?

The last-place Impact (4-5-14) go into New York Saturday to play a Red Bulls squad  (6-7-10) currently holding the fifth and likely final playoff spot in the East, 11 points ahead of the Impact.

The Impact are riding a modest two game winning streak, including a victory in San Salvador in CONCACAF Champions League action and a narrow 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire.

The Impact are undefeated since the debut of Designated Player Ignacio Piatti, a flashy midfielder from Argentina who took part in all three goals in a 3-2 triumph Wednesday.

Striker Marco Di Vaio has seen a resurgence of late, while fellow striker Jack McInerney, obtained from Philadelphia in return for Andrew Wenger, has been riding the pine.

The Impact are still hoping to grab many of the 39 points remaining on the table during the regular season and another three or four consecutive wins could put the team right back in the playoff race.

But they'll have to start with a road win against a tough New York team first.

"We know it’s going to be a tough game but we still have some chances to earn points,” Marco Di Vaio told the team’s website following his two-goal performance Wednesday night in El Salvador. “We have been defending well as a group and recently we’ve been creating a lot of chances.”

Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips leads the league with18 goals scored in 22 MLS games. French legend Thierry Henry has scored five goals and 10 assists and his compatriot Saer Sene, acquired from the New England Revolution, also provides firepower for the New York squad.
