MONTREAL - The McGill Redmen named Clint Uttley as the university's new head football coach Thursday.
The 38-year-old from Orillia, Ont., was McGill's defensive co-ordinator last season and served as the team's interim head coach for the final three games after Sonny Wolfe stepped down.
McGill finished the year 0-9, allowing a Quebec conference worst 287 points, while scoring just 139.
"Clint has been instrumental in helping us change the direction of the Redmen football program and we have confidence that he is the right fit for McGill going forward,'' McGill executive director of athletics and recreation Drew Love said in a release. "We are dedicated to creating a winning program with Clint at the helm of a professional staff with a great mix of experience, knowledge and leadership.''
Uttley, who has signed a three-year contract, joined the Redmen staff as the linebackers coach in 2008.
Prior to joining McGill, he was the special teams co-ordinator and handled defensive backs at UBC for two seasons following six years of coaching at Acadia.
