Hundreds looking for new jobs in the health care field lined up Saturday for a recruitment event in the West Island.

The West Island Health and Social Services Centre was recruiting at the Lakeshore General in hopes of enticing more health care professionals to the West Island.

Looking to fill positions from administration to first line care to kitchen staff, the recruitment event was the first of its kind for the West Island Health and Social Services Centre.

There is a particular need to find part-time workers this summer, but some full-time positions are available.

Nursing Lynda Railer said before she gets her licence, she’s looking to gain experience as a patient attendant at the hospital.

“It makes no sense to be in nursing and working at the mall until I get a position,” she said. “I would rather be in the area of my field.”

Carl-Philippe Roy, also a nursing student, said the event was a great place to learn more about the positions available.

“It's really a good opportunity to talk to the people that work here and get all the information that you need,” he said.

Administrative assistant Louise Reynaert said she was looking toavoid a lengthy commute.

“I live in Dorval, and it’s close to my home and I'm bilingual,” she said.

The open house was a one-day only event but the West Island Health and Social Services Centre said it’s always looking for people.
