TROIS-RIVIERES -  A merger of Quebec's right-of-centre factions could soon be in the cards.

The Action democratique du Quebec, which holds four seats in the province's legislature, could join forces with a conservative group headed by former Parti Quebecois cabinet minister Francois Legault.

The Coalition for Quebec's Future isn't a political party but it has attracted a lot of attention in recent months.

Members of the ADQ were in Trois-Rivieres Saturday to discuss party policies though much of the focus is on whether the party will merge with Legault's group.

An ADQ member of the legislature, Francois Bonnardel, says joining forces is only hypothetical for the moment.

But he says the right must be united to beat the ruling Liberals and the Parti Quebecois in the next election.

The Liberal government, which holds a slim majority, doesn't have to call an election for another two years.

ADQ Leader Gerald Deltell made no mention of the possible merger in a speech to party members Saturday, focusing instead on the need to reform unions.

The ADQ rode a wave of populist anger to become the official opposition following the 2007 election but has nearly been wiped off the electoral map since then.
