Hundreds of people staged a noisy protest outside Lionel-Groulx metro station Sunday to call for the provincial government to rethink its plan on the Turcot Interchange.
Newly-elected Southwest borough mayor Benoit Dorais joined forces with the demonstrators, who say the falling concrete structure needs to be rebuilt, but think the plan should incorporate public transit.
"We are looking to have the governmentt invest more in alternative transportation than investing in car transportation. We think this is the new idea for the future... This is a project that we can do better for the future, for our children, and for people that live right now as well," said organizer Genevieve Locas.
The Quebec government will release its environmental review of the plan Wednesday.
