Three railcars carrying 80 tonnes of propane each went off the tracks Monday night in a private train yard on the South Shore.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on the site of a company called CSX Transflo. The company has been operating in Beauharnois for less than a year.

The three tanker cars went off the rails, damaging the tracks badly enough that a portion of the railway will have to be replaced.

Nobody was hurt, and the tanker cars were built solidly enough that nothing leaked. A break in the tanks could have forced the evacuation of downtown Beauharnois.

By Tuesday morning two of the three wagons had been uprighted and put back on the tracks, with crews working on the third car.
