ST. JEROME - The principal at Rosemere High School testified Friday in the case of a woman accused of sexually exploiting a student.
Alain Guay testified in a St. Jerome courtroom that he met with the alleged victim's mother in the spring of 2003 to discuss concerns Tania Pontbriand was getting too close to her son.
Guay told the court he asked the mother if she wanted to file a formal complaint about the situation, but she opted not to, saying she only wanted their close relationship to stop.
Pontbriand, a 41-year-old former gym teacher, is accused of having a two-year sexual relationship with one of her students when he was 15 years old.
The student testified earlier in the trial that the relationship lasted two years after which he was depressed and suicidal. He then sought counselling and went to police who recommended charges of sexual assault.
The trial, which has been beset by delays, is now facing another setback. Court adjourned Friday because it was unable to schedule more time next week. It will resume on May 7 in St. Jerome.
Lawyers have argued that because the events allegedly took place from 2002 to 2004, Pontbriand's right to a speedy trial has been violated.
