MONTREAL - A massive operation was underway in Lachine for most of Thursday night, as police tried to determine if hazardous waste was inside an abandoned tractor-trailer.

CTV has learned there were some radioactive readings in the trailer, but it is not considered nefarious.

The truck was found in a parking lot for towed vehicles at Highway 20 and 1st Ave.

Police suspect material inside the cab of the truck could hazardous waste.

A massive number of RCMP vehicles, hazardous material crews and members of the armed forces were on site.

X-ray vehicles from Canada Border Services Agency were brought in.

An initial scan of the truck did not produce any results, said Montreal police Const. Yannick Ouimet.

Officials were preparing Thursday night to take a closer look at the material inside.

Police are expected to provide more information Friday.
