MONTREAL- Thirty-seven years after a teenager disappeared from The Point police are hoping someone will be willing to come forward with information about her murder.
Sharron Prior left her home at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 1975 on her way to meet friends at a nearby restaurant.
She never made it to her dinner date, but it was only when Sharron failed to come home by 11 p.m. that her mother Yvonne started to worry.
"I was 37 years old when this happened to my daughter. You can count, I'm 74 now," said Prior. "I can't believe that I'm still waiting for this to be solved," said Prior.
Volunteers scoured neighbourhood
The search for Sharron galvanized her neighbourhood, and for days police and volunteers searched Montreal's neighbourhood of Point St. Charles, until her beaten, naked body was found in a field in Longueuil.
Police never charged anyone with the crime.
In 2004, officers searched the Favard St. garage and turned up DNA traces of three individuals, without any success.
But the case is still active, and Longueuil police are hoping a $10,000 reward will bring forth some new information.
With the help of Sun Youth, someone is offering a large sum of cash for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the killer, or killers.
New reward
In light of the reward, Longueuil police set up a command centre in Point St. Charles on Wednesday.
"People are often scared to call 9-1-1 [saying], 'Oh we're going to bother the police officers,'" said Mark David of Longueuil police. "Well that's our job. That's why we're here."
Police say despite 37 years since Sharron's death, any clue could still be useful.
"Sometimes we can go very far with just a little piece of information," said David.
Anyone with information about the murder of Sharron Prior is asked to call Longueuil Police at 450-463-7211. All callers will be treated with full anonymity and confidentiality.
