A new poll shows Pierre Karl Peladeau is the favourite to lead the Parti Quebecois.

The poll, by Leger for Le Devoir gives Peladeau 53 per cent of the party’s support.

The poll also shows 61 per cent agree the party should put off holding another referendum on sovereignty but not abandon the idea completely, agreeing with the phrase “We must hold a referendum later, but it’s not a priority at the moment.”

None of the potential candidates to lead the PQ, including Peladeau, Jean-Francois Lisee and Bernard Drainville, has officially declared their candidacy.

Neither Lisee nor Drainville had more than 7 per cent support.

The poll confirms on going honeymoon between Quebecers and Couillard government, despite the recent controversial review of public spending.

The Liberals garnered 38 per cent of the vote, while the Coalition Avenir Québec has 28 per cent, ahead of the PQ at 21 per cent and Quebec Solidaire at 10 per cent. Support of all parties has remained relatively stable since June.

Among Francophones, the CAQ dominates with 33 per cent of the vote, ahead of the PQ at 26 per cent and the Liberals at 25 per cent.
 
The Leger poll was conducted between September 22 and 25, with 1,000 Internet users.
