MONTREAL - An accused child pornographer and child molester from Pierrefonds has been denied bail.

Kimberley Byron Moskalewski, who was arrested at his home, failed to reassure the court he didn't pose a risk to re-offend while released.

Moskalewski, 54, is charged with making, possessing and distributing child pornography. He's also charged with inciting sexual touching with a child who attended his wife's home daycare.

Moskalewski said he wanted to get bail so he could undergo therapy. He promised to stay at the Maison du Pere, a homeless shelter in downtown Montreal, but the shelter was unable to supervise him and monitor his access the internet.

That was a major concern for the prosecution, which said it gathered nearly a million photos of child pornography on Moskalewski's computers.

"The guarantee offered by the accused was not sufficient, we were not able to supervise him, so the judge considered that in his decision," said Crown prosecutor Carolyne Paquin.

An Anglican church minister who volunteered to help Moskalewski admitted it was a long shot.

"I stand for people who are in need," said Rev. Kenneth Near. "I had hoped there was a more humane place in our system to receive treatment and it would be more easily accomplished."

Moskalewski is now legally separated from his wife, who was forced to close the home daycare.

He denies inappropriate sexual behaviour with the children, but his lawyer now hints at a guilty plea on the child pornography charges.
