PIERREFONDS - Dozens of children went back to daycare Monday morning, two weeks after fire destroyed their old building in Pierrefonds.

Fire ripped through Petit Castel daycare on Gouin Blvd. the morning of January 3rd.

Since then 70 families have been coping as best they could.

"We are lucky that my wife was on maternity leave. We have another baby at home, otherwise it would have been very difficult," said Rami El Raja.

But thanks to declining enrolment in English schools, finding a new location was not difficult.

Petit Castel directer Debora Jolly says the Lester B. Pearson school board was eager to help.

"It's been amazing. I made one phone call, and the next day, I had the keys to the school," Jolly said.

According to Marcus Tabachnick, Terry Fox Elementary is one of five schools standing empty that the Lester B. Pearson school board is trying to fill.

"The cities do the best they can but they generally don't usually have facilities that can house up to 70 or 80 children for an extended period of time," said Tabachnick.

The rental to the daycare is not permanent, but will continue for the next six months.

In the meantime the daycare plans to rebuild at their original location.

The arson squad is still investigating the fire which is considered suspicious because of how quickly it spread to the second floor and the roof.
