MONTREAL - Jim Anderson, chairman of the police technology department at John Abbott, says police face major challenges when dealing with people on the street suffering from mental health issues.

"Obviously the big problem is having these mentally disturbed people on the streets," he said Friday.

"I think the police are well trained with the normal, the problem is the abnormal."

Anderson spoke with CTV Montreal's Mutsumi Takahashi on Friday to discuss the challenges facing police, following the fatal shooting of a homeless man in a Montreal metro last week.
