MONTREAL - Bill Hurley has been named Irishman of the Year.

Known to Montrealers as the owner and operator of Hurley's Pub on Crescent St., he never actually meant to get into the bartending business.

"I was in the insurance business, financial planning industry, where I received my degrees and a lot, but back in the early 1990s, I just wanted a hobby that I had passion for to celebrate my Irishness," said Hurley.

Many pints of beer and cider later, Hurley's hobby has become a symbol of the Irish community.
