FREDERICTON - New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham has apologized after saying there is a higher anti-Quebec sentiment in his province's rural ridings.

Graham made the comment Monday when he was asked if some of his elected members were having a harder time convincing their constituents of the merits of the proposed deal to sell NB Power to Hydro-Quebec.

Today in the legislature, Graham said it was a mistake for him to make a statement that characterized all rural New Brunswickers in the same light.

The premier says if he could take back his words he would.

Conservative Opposition Leader David Alward says while he has seen some anti-Quebec sentiment, Graham is searching for differing reasons why New Brunswickers aren't supporting the deal.

He says Graham needs to understand that people are opposed because it is a bad deal.
