MONTREAL -- A Montreal man accused of violating the terms of a terrorism-related peace bond he signed in March was granted bail Monday.
Merouane Ghalmi, 22, was arrested last week and charged with breaking a condition he was not to consult terrorism materials online.
He was held over the weekend and released Monday after agreeing to several strict conditions that forbid him from going on the Internet.
Ghalmi will also continue to wear a tracking bracelet monitoring his movements.
His case returns to court June 11.
A summons was issued in February for Ghalmi after the RCMP expressed fear he would commit a terrorism offence.
Because the contents of a sworn affidavit have been sealed, it is not known why the Mounties are concerned about him.
Ghalmi signed off on the peace bond at the end of March, agreeing to a long list of conditions including giving up his passport and agreeing not to communicate with people in Syria.
At the time, he was also required to hand over the passwords to all his electronic devices.
Ghalmi is also forbidden from speaking with another Montrealer, Daniel Minta Darko, who also signed a peace bond of his own a few weeks after Ghalmi.
The peace bond is valid for one year.
