The Liberal Party of Quebec will be testing its popularity with voters as Premier Philippe Couillard will soon be calling four byelections, including one in the riding of a former Parti Quebecois leader.

Among the seats currently open is that of Pierre Karl Peladeau, the PQ leader and media magnate who was the MNA for St. Jerome. Peladeau retired from politics suddenly in June.

On Tuesday morning, Couillard announced his party’s nominee for the riding would be 29-year-old Naomie Goyette, a local restaurant owner.

In the 2014 provincial election, the Liberals placed third in the riding.

The other three byelections will be in the ridings of Verdun, Marie-Victorin and Arthabaska, which was previously held by the late Sylvie Roy, who passed away in late July.
