A restaurant often associated with the Montreal Mafia suffered serious damage after being targeted by arsonists at about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday morning, marking the second such attack on the same restaurant in recent days.

The La Cantina restaurant at 9090 St. Laurent, corner of Legendre, was also attacked on November 24.

The restaurant suffered little damage in the first attack but the destruction was considerably more significant this time.

One or more individuals were seen fleeing the scene but police have made no arrests.

According to several sources, Vito Rizzuto, the former Mafia boss of Montreal, was a regular at La Cantina.

In August 2009, co-owner Federico Del Peschio, a Rizzuto clan associate, was shot dead in the back of the restaurant.
