A coyote that has recently been spotted in the Kirkland area and is suspected of attacking a small dog has been caught.

City manager Joe Sanilitro confirmed the creature was apprehended Saturday night. He said that after being spotted by a trapper hired by the city, the coyote was lured with food and the trapper managed to put a collar around its neck.

The coyote is being evaluated by inspectors from the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to determine if it has been domesticated. If so, it will likely be transferred to the Ecomuseum. If the animal is determined to still be able to live in the wild, it will be release to an undisclosed location.
