The Montreal Impact will seek to avoid their longest single-season winless streak by adding to their recent success against Sporting Kansas City Saturday.

The Impact have won each of the past two games in the series and two of three all-time road matchups but face a well-rested club looking to extend its unbeaten run to five games Saturday night.

Jack McInerney, acquired from Philadelphia on April 4, gave Montreal a lead just before halftime in his club debut last Saturday against visiting Chicago. The Impact, however, didn't respond after giving up a goal in the 54th minute and settled for a 1-all draw.

After a third consecutive tie, Montreal (0-3-3) is on its longest winless streak to open a season and has matched its longest in a single campaign. The Impact went 0-4-1 to begin their inaugural 2012 season and had two six-match spans without a victory in one season.

The most recent such drought was Sept. 14-Oct. 16. Including a playoff defeat to Houston, Montreal is 1-10-4 in its last 15 league games.

The Impact are 2-12-5 on the road since opening last season with a pair of wins there. One of their two most recent victories away from home was a 2-1 win at Sporting KC on June 1.

They also won 1-0 at home against Sporting on July 27 with Blake Smith scoring the lone goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Fellow midfielder Collen Warner had the tiebreaking score in the victory at Sporting Park.

"It's another opportunity," Montreal's first-year coach Frank Klopas said. "The games come quickly. I think you have to be even-keeled through the whole process. We had a good week of preparation. The guys are going to be ready. It's just a matter of going and executing."

Sporting Kansas City would appear to have a promising chance to make its skid against the Impact a brief one. That club is 2-0-2 in its last four and has gotten two weeks to rest since a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake on April 5.

"We didn't have a lot of time to spend on training (earlier in the season) and working on little aspects of our game," coach Peter Vermes said. "What we were able to do over the past two

weeks is to be very detail oriented.

"I'm fully confident that our group will be better Saturday and as we grow during the season."

That time off wasn't enough to get forward C.J. Sapong back from a neck strain. He hasn't played since a 1-0 win over San Jose on March 22, joining Ike Opara (leg) and Peterson Joseph (illness) on the sidelines.

Kansas City also won't have midfielder Oriol Rosell available for this game after being given a red card in the draw versus RSL.
