The Correctional Service of Canada is looking for Daniel Cook, an inmate who escaped from the Sainte Anne des Plaines Institution last Thursday.

The 53-year-old man went to jail in 1997, after he was convicted of first-degree murder.

Based on an evaluation by a team of specialists, Cook was permitted to leave the minimum security prison on group outings or accompanied by an escort.

He was out with a volunteer when he managed to make his escape. Montreal police are now handling Cook's disappearance.

Cook is 5'5" and weighs 148 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair, but his head was shaved when he disappeared. He has tattoos on his arms and a scar on his lower lip.

Anyone with information on Daniel Cook's whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-348-1204. All information will be treated in a confidential manner.
