MONTREAL - Ryan Pore potted two goals, both with help from teammate Miguel Montaño, to fuel the Montreal Impact to a 2-0 home victory against FC Edmonton Saturday.
The young forward, on loan from the Portland Timbers of the MLS, helped the Impact avoid elimination from playoff contention as Minnesota, the team it trailed at the start of the night by three points, tied its game against Tampa Bay 1-1.
So with one game remaining, the Impact remains one point out of the sixth and final playoff spot.
The Impact will play its final regular season match, a road tilt against the Atlanta Silverbacks on September 24, while the Stars face off against the league's top team, the Caroline RailHawks also Saturday night.
Pore netted his first goal in the 12th minute on a low shot past Edmonton goalie David Monsalve. He then scored again in the 78th minute from the top of the six-yard box, once again on a pass from Montano.
The Impact outshot Edmonton FC 15 to 4 while Impact keeper Evan Bush put his stamp on his eighth shutout of 2011.
