MONTREAL — Three former NHL players put on a tie and joined the Montreal Canadiens behind the bench on Wednesday in a bid to renew the leadership of the embattled team.

Former Red Wing Martin Lapointe and defenceman Patrice Brisebois joined the team's development arm where they will help train players.

Former defenceman Sylvain Lefebvre was named head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Montreal's farm team. Lefebvre replaced Clement Jodoin, who will meet the new coach of the Canadiens Michel Therrien and could become one of his assistants.

Standing beside general manager Michel Bergevin, the three were expected to meet the press at the Brossard Bell Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Lapointe is the only one of the three new managers to have never player with the Habs, having stayed in Detroit for the majority of his career and winning a Stanley Cup there.

Lefebvre spent three seasons with the Canadiens. He wore five different team jerseys by the time he retired in 2002. Brisebois spent 16 of his 18 professional seasons with the Habs.
