Midway through Movember, some of Montreal's most famous faces are sporting some solid staches.
The question is, which member of the Montreal Canadiens has the best looking moustache? We caught up with them in the locker room to ask them what they thought.
Travis Moen: (I) get teased a little bit, because it doesn't really show up unless you're standing in the light… so…
Brian Gionta: I think myself and Cole are at the top of the list for guys with the best ones
Mathieu Darche: Ah please, (Gionta)'s cheating. Look -- he's got a beard, and he's got the thing at the bottom. It's not a real moustache.
Erik Cole: Is mine the best? Hands down. A lot of these guys can't even grow facial hair… (Also) Raphael Diaz. I really like Raph's.
Raphael Diaz: Oh really? Haha, that's funny.
Of course, you don't have to be famous to grow for a good cause.
According to numbers released Tuesday by Movember, the prostate awareness campaign that has men across the globe growing moustaches for the month of November, Canada is by far the leading fundraiser.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Canada had a dominate lead by the halfway point in the campaign. Here's how we stack up in the top five:
- Canada – 227,322 participants, $16,620,402 raised
- United Kingdom – 235,392 participants, $9,989,422
- Australia – 133,399 participants, $9,585,964
- United States – 133,135 participants, $5, 8383,569
- Ireland – 13, 862 participants, $497,735
Last year's top moustache money raisers from Quebec are Team Three Monkeys.
They're back at it this year, and agree that like the moustaches, participation is growing, too.
"More than ever before, the participation rate is huge," said Paul Desbaillets, whose team raised about $40,000 last November for research into prostate cancer.
"It was a big team, but none the less, that's a huge goal," he said.
Debaillets and teammate Mike Jeffcott have lent their legendary staches to the cause – showcasing them as the faces of Movember Canada.
"People tell me it looks good," said Desbaillets. "I don't know if they're just trying to make me feel better about myself but people tell me it looks good."
Part of their goal this year is to see a doctor to get informed and get checked for prostate cancer.
"We wanted at the very least to get a general checkup. Ask the doctor some questions and things that we should be looking out for," said team captain Mike Casali.
Teammate Mike Jeffcott agreed.
"That's one of the major points of Movember -- and having the mustache on the face is a sign to everybody," he said. "Check it out. Don't wait."
