LAVAL - Twelve teachers at a school in Laval have dropped their razors to unite for one cause – the Movember moustache.

At Mother Teresa Junior High School, the mo-bros showed off their 'staches on the catwalk, strutting their stuff for students in a bid to draw awareness of men's health and funds for research into prostate cancer.

The month-long follicle fundraising event is in its first week, which means some teachers' 'staches are just beginning to show signs of their existence, while others are in full swing.

Competition is fierce. Math teacher Suhael Brohi seemed to be in a hairier situation than the others.

"My favorite 'stache was Mr. Brohi's -- It's like a walrus 'stache so it's pretty cool and pretty hairy," said one student, Mario.

Brohi is using his superior 'stache to help convince the students to empty their pockets for a good cause.

"It's only been eight days, but it already looks like it's been a month… so the deal I made with them is every time they tease me, they have to put a quarter in the bin," he said.

The bins are booming – especially because students get to use their donation to vote for the most horrible stash.

"Who's winning so far? Mr. Marshall, the ethics teacher," said event organizer Kellie George-Bernard.

Growing a respectable mo might be a little tougher for Marshall and geography & history teacher William Evans, but Evans said the team spirit is there, even if the moustache is still in its infancy.

"It's just growing everyday, just like my stash, it's growing," he said.

As for the situation – or lack thereof – on his upper lip?

"It's not a dig at all at my masculinity but, I do hope it will get there!" he said.

it was amazing and it shows great dedication to the school and the foundation of prostate cancer

At the root of the lighthearted fun is a serious goal – to get students talking to their fathers, grandfathers and uncles about prostate cancer.

"Kids need to be aware and we need to get as many people involved as possible. I think we've accomplished that," said Evans.

The teachers' staches are accomplishing plenty -- raising awareness, funds, and even pride in the teachers.

"It shows great dedication to the school and the foundation of prostate cancer," said student Biagio Fulminis.
