MONTREAL - "When most people think of Google, they think of a search box," says Elias Makos. "In reality they offer 70 services."

Until March 1, Google had 60 separate privacy policies. The Internet giant now has one policy, which allows it to share user's data from Google, YouTube, Gmail and Google Docs across all of its platforms.

The new policy doesn't allow for Google to get more information from its users, but it allows the company to share and use that information more efficiently to deliver better-targeted advertisements.

"The more that they share between their services, the better they'll be at providing you with an advertisement that you'll click on," said Makos, CTV News' technology and trends columnist.

Facing strong competition from Facebook and other online giants, Google's move has been criticized by some.
