A fire in Villeray early Monday morning led police to discover a stash of 6,000 marijuana plants.
The plants have a street value of up to $6 million.
A Molotov cocktail was thrown into the establishment at 90 Mozart Ave. at 1:15 a.m., said Montreal police Const. Anie Lemieux.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered the plants and called police to the scene. Police are investigating, and say they're trying to find the owner of the building.
Meanwhile, some residents in the area said they don't know much about the building, and they never noticed anything suspicious.
"No, no, never, never. Perhaps in the back, perhaps, but we never see anything here. It's too quiet everyday, but nothing. There is manufacturing behind, but that's it," said area resident Abdenour Azka.
The grow-op bust is the second in two weeks after Montreal police uncovered 10,000 marijuana plants Dec. 15 after raiding two office buildings in the Plateau area. Officers also seized thousands of dollars worth of growing equipment.
Police arrested a 55-year-old man in that case, calling that bust one of the biggest in the city's history.
Police say it's too early to know whether that operation is connected to the grow op that was discovered Monday.
