A young child and his father were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation Wednesday following a fire in a 51-unit apartment building in the Duff Court area of Lachine.
The fire started on the boy's bed at around 11 a.m. The child, in turn, called his father, who was unable to extinguish the flames.
He called 911 and firefighters were able to contain the fire to that unit but some other young, aged or disabled residents were evacuated from the building.
The father suffered a minor burn and some apartment units suffered water damage.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
