MONTREAL—A car crash claimed a life on Wednesday morning after a motorist lost control of their vehicle and hit a cement wall on the de la Concorde Bridge near the Montreal Casino.

The accident took place around 6:30 a.m. as the car drove west towards Pierre-Dupuy Ave.

Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant confirmed that the car started burning soon after the accident. While firefighters were called to help extinguish the flames, one person was confirmed dead on the scene. No details are yet available about that person.

Police investigators are currently on the scene.

Built for Expo 67, the de la Concorde Bridge is one of the city’s lightest used crossings, connecting the South-West borough with Saint Helen’s Island.
