The municipal, provincial and federal government announced plans Monday for $224 million facelift for the Dorval interchange.
The plan is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and confusion for drivers not familiar with the city.
The details
The plan is to build eight overpasses to link the airport to highways 20 and 520, plus links between the two highways.
The plan will also extend Dorval avenue to the north, and improving sidewalks and bikepaths for pedestrians and cyclists.
In addition, the Dorval terminal will be moved and enlarged to make for better access to public transportation.
The plan includes the possibility of a high-speed rail link between Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and downtown.
The money
The money is coming from several levels of government:
- $55 million from the Government of Canada
- $20 million from a Government of Canada infrastructure fund from 2008
- $89 million from Transport Quebec
- $40 million from the city of Montreal
- $20 million from the Aeroports de Montreal.
They hope to start the five-phase project soon and wrap up by 2013.
