Quebec's Court of Appeal has confirmed the first-degree murder conviction of a retired judge.
Jacques Delisle was found guilty in 2012 of shooting and killing his wife Nicole Rainville. She had suffered a stroke two years earlier and was partially paralyzed.
At his trial Delisle's lawyer argued that Rainville, who was found with a .22 caliber pistol at her side, could have shot herself, and based his appeal on the notion that ballistic evidence was misunderstood by the jury at Delisle's first trial.
When Rainville's body was discovered police accepted Delisle's statement that his wife has committed suicide, but launched an investigation after learning that Delisle had been having an affair with his former secretary.
On Wednesday the Appeal court said that Delisle's conviction would stand.
