The construction work on Guy St. goes into high gear Friday morning, requiring the complete closure of the street between Ste. Catherine St. and De Maisonneuve Blvd.

For ten days, starting at 7 a.m. Friday Aug. 7, crews will be ripping up the street and replacing underground cable rooms for Bell Canada.

That phase of the work is supposed to wrap up on Aug. 17, but the work on the street will continue for months to come.

The city of Montreal began work on sewer lines, water mains and electrical cables that run under Guy between Lincoln and Ste. Catherine in June. After the street re-opens in mid-August only one lane will be open northbound on Guy between Ste. Catherine and Lincoln, while southbound traffic will continue to be diverted to St. Mathieu St.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also advised to be careful in the area since the city has install temporary water mains that run above ground along sidewalks, and could present a hazard.

The metro is still operational, but bus commuters have to walk several blocks as bus stops have been rerouted. Check out the map of new locations.

The construction is scheduled to continue until November, be on hiatus during the winter, and be completed in late spring 2016.
