A long-time aide to Mayor Denis Coderre was fired on Thursday.
The mayor's office issued a brief statement saying Jean-Francois Thibault was dismissed for what was called ‘unacceptable behaviour.’
A video obtained by the TVA network Thursday appears to show Thibault smoking crystal meth.
Thibault told TVA that it was him smoking drugs in the video, but said the person who shot the video was being vengeful.
The mayor's office said it just learned of the video Thursday and that Thibault was dismissed immediately. They added they will ensure Thibault gets help for drug addiction.
In September La Presse reported Thibault owed the city of Montreal $11,000 after failing to pay parking tickets.
Thibault was in charge of logistics in the mayor's appearances.
