MONTREAL -- Police are relieved at the outcome of a missing child case Saturday that could have ended very differently.

A four-year-old girl went missing in the morning, and was suspected to be with her mother, who police say has serious mental health issues.

After certain concerning words were uttered by the 26-year-old old mother, the woman left the home with her young child.

Police rushed to her home at Audoin Ave., one street east of Saint-Michel Blvd in Montreal North.

The girl and her mother were found nearby the Audoin Ave. address at 3:30 p.m., safe and sound. The child was taking into the care of Child Protective Services.

The mother is receiving immediate psychiatric assistance.
