The Universite de Montreal Carabins scored a field goal in overtime to take a 12-9 decision over arch-rival Rouge et Or of the Universite de Laval in Quebec City to win the Dusnmore Cup Saturday.
With the victory the Montreal squad prevented their Quebec City rivals from taking their 12th straight Dunmore Cup title.
The battle saw both defences shine as neither team proved able to score a touchdown.
The Carabins scored on their first series of downs, as Philippe Simoneau knicked a field goal from 35 yards out. He repeated the feat with four minutes left in the second quarter.
The Carabins managed to wrest a turnover at the opposition 35-yard line but were unable to get the two yards needed to advance as Quarterback Gabriel Cousineau, who went 25 for 38 for the day, failed to connect with a receiver on a crucial attempt.
Simoneau was unable to add to the lead, as his 36-yard field goal attempt into the wind missed the mark.
Boris Bede nailed three field goals for the Rouge et Or in the second half but Simoneau tied the score with 61 seconds left on a 19-yard kick.
Simoneau then kicked one through the uprights in overtime to for the win.
"They played an excellent game, give them credit," said a disappointed Rouge et Or receiver Felix Faubert-Lussier in a post-game interview with Radio Canada.
With the victory, the Carabins keep their hopes alive of eventually making it to the Vanier Cup game at McGill.
