MONTREAL - A showdown is underway to find Montreal's most knowledge high school student in affairs dealing with cortexes, synapses, reticular formations and other brainy topics.

Twenty-nine Montreal-area high school students were flexing their brainpower in hopes of winning a ticket to Hamilton in an effort to represent Canada at the Brain Bee in Cape Town, South Africa.

The students assembled at the Montreal Neurological Hospital to answer about 500 questions about memory, sleep, intelligence, emotion, perception, stress, aging, brain-imaging, neurology, neurotransmitters, genetics, and brain disease.

The students were expected to know a 60-page book called Neuroscience: Science of the Brain and were coached on its contents by Neuro students.
